We got adipose tissue wrong for decades. We taught it as dead weight—storage, nothing more. That's wrong. By the early 90s, we knew fat was insulin-sensitive. Shortly after, we found out it's an endocrine organ, sending signals to your brain, liver, and immune system. Now we know it's not even one tissue—it's several, each depot doing its own thing, cross-talking in ways that directly drive disease. If you learned fat cells in med or graduate school before the 2000s, forget it. That model's dead. This isn't academic; it changes how you think about insulin resistance, obesity, and what's really happening when a patient loses weight.
